              Lesson Plans - Eating Powerful Foods and Tasting the Rainbow
              Students learn what makes powerful foods and that eating a rainbow of foods is the best way to stay healthy. (Phytochemicals, fiber, vitamin, and minerals are discussed as well as ways to incorporate more rainbow colors in everyday meals!

              Looking Ahead at the Rest of the Week
              • Discuss how each day will go and what they are to expect from and what is expected of them.
              • We are working in teams and making two dishes per day. Each dish will help students better understand the daily lesson learned in class. Each lesson will increase in difficulty, and students will receive a certificate for each level they pass.
              • Students will get their final certificates on Friday, and host a late lunch/ early dinner (Linner) at IQuest!

              Reviews yesterday's lecture and lesson activity, as well as safety rules and expectations.


              Lesson - Healthy Grocery Shopping
              Eating healthy starts at the market! Students learn helpful tips used to plan and shop at the market. Tips like where to shop at the market and what ingredients to look out for are discussed in class. Students will also learn about melons, their varieties, and nutritional benefits.

              Lesson - Choosing Whole Grains
              Students learn what three characteristics makes a whole grain (bran, endosperm, and germ all intact), refined grains (grains striped of their bran, endosperm, or germ), and enriched grains (refined grains that have had vitamins added back after processing), as well as what energy inducing health benefits whole grains offer(fiber, vitamins, phytochemicals). Students will make two recipes focusing on grains, as well as one grain recipe focusing on the health benefits of apples.

              Lesson - Powerful Proteins
              Students learn about healthy proteins and healthy protein intake. Additional health benefits are received with plant-based proteins. What makes a healthy protein, the role proteins play in our bodies, and how to choose healthy proteins are discussed together in class and we make two delicious recipes focusing on a powerful protein food - beans!

              Friday

              Reviews of all of the week’s lectures and lesson activities.


              Last Lesson - Get Active
              Last day of camp!!! We've discussed so much this week; now today is our final day. We'll discuss one last lesson, and get ready for our graduation ceremony and Linner Party! All week we've discussed health eating and how to incorporate healthy food into your daily routine. Our last lesson covers how to stay healthy by keeping active. We'll discuss how staying active reduces health risk like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.  We'll also discuss how often we need to be active, what type of activities to stay fit with, and how being active can help us in our daily lives. The class will have three blender recipe demonstrations for healthy food on the go while being active. After the quick demonstrations, the class will break and begin to prep for our Graduation Linner Party!
